During the 2020 lockdowns the Baltimore County Department of Health pushed selective data to keep small businesses in Dundalk closed. They used “expert consensus” to silence any local doctor who questioned the math. Most residents trust “the science” without looking at who funds the studies or the incentives involved. The health department uses statistical tricks to hide the harm done to your children’s education and mental health.
12. Patriotic Symbolism and Nationalism Exploitation
Council members wrap themselves in the flag at the Towson 4th of July parade to distract you from their voting records. They use “support the troops” rhetoric to sell bad policies that drain the county budget. Many people think questioning a politician’s motive is disloyalty. You were never taught the difference between loving your country and blind obedience to the state. The establishment counts on your misplaced loyalty to pass laws that hurt your wallet.
13. Censorship Disguised as “Misinformation” Protection
Social media platforms and local laws hide alternative views by calling them “harmful.” They train you to self-censor or distrust your own eyes when you see corruption in the Department of Public Works. Most people cheer the suppression of “wrong” ideas until the same rules hit their own neighborhood Facebook groups. It’s censorship disguised as protection–a tactic used to stop you from seeing the truth about how they spend your tax dollars.
14. Complex Tax Codes with Loopholes for Elites
The Baltimore County tax code is a mess of thousands of pages. These deductions benefit the connected elites and mega-developers while the average worker in Essex pays the full bill. People complain about property taxes but they don’t demand a simpler system. You work hard to earn money only to see it fund the legal teams of the connected class. They keep the code complex so you won’t realize you’re being robbed.
15. Citizen-on-Citizen Enforcement (Snitch Culture)
The county pushes “snitch culture” through the 311 app and various hotlines. They want you reporting your neighbors for rule-breaking–like grass height or trash cans–instead of looking at the real criminals in government. Fear of being labeled “bad” turns ignorant citizens into unpaid enforcers for the bureaucracy. This echoes historical regimes that relied on people to turn in their own friends because the official resources were limited.
